- Compulsory Inclusion of Manufacturing Number and Expiration Date of Narcotics and Psychotropic Drugs -

Anyang, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, April 29 The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (President Euikyung Lee) and the Korea Institute of Drug Safety & Risk Management (hereinafter KIDS, President Soonyoung Han) announced that the grace period for medical agencies and pharmacies on reporting manufacturing number and expiration date of narcotics subject to general management.

The grace period that initially started with the implementation of the Narcotics Handling Report System (NHRS) in 2018 is coming to an end. Starting from the 18th of May, narcotics handlers are required to report the manufacturing number and the expiration date of any narcotics transferred from one to another.

In the case of dispensing and administrating, instead of checking each narcotic and psychotropic drug to match their actual manufacturing number and the expiration date, handlers are allowed to report in-house numbers in chronological order.

KIDS stated that they plan on sending texts and official documents to medical agencies and pharmacies to reduce any confusion created in response to the end of the grace period. ‘General Management Narcotics Stock Management’ will also be offered to help medical agencies and pharmacies to check on their stock, manufacturing number, and expiration date.
